A chemical peel is a non surgical treatment, which immediate effect is the elimination of the top layers of the skin. When the new skin is generated, aesthetic defects like spots, wrinkles and such are removed.
The best candidates are patients with facial aging due to sun exposure, spots, acne, keratosis, skin flaccidity, small wrinkles, stretch marks, scars, open pores, etc.
Several substances can be used to perform a chemical peel: trichloroacetic acid, salicylic acid, azelaic acid, benzoyl peroxide, cogic acid.
There are three types of peel: superficial, medium and deep peel.
A chemical peel must be a personalized treatment.
The type of peeling will be chosen according to the depth of the lesions and the type of skin.
The superficial peel is useful to remove fine wrinkles, spots and acne for patients who do not want to or cannot undergo a visible desquamation, since the only visible consequence is a light redness which fades in a few hours. The treatment can be repeated every fifteen days.
A medium peel aims at erasing superficial wrinkles as well as large pigmented lesions and active acne. This peeling causes a greater redness and a more visible desquamation, and removes dry skin. It shouldn’t affect normal social life. The treatment is done in a single session, which can be repeated every six weeks.
A deep peel focuses on eliminating deep wrinkles, medium to high level “photoaging”, acne scars and circumscribed pigmentation. This treatment will leave an intense redness for 3 or 4 days and you will experience desquamation for up to 10 days. These reasons may alter your social life for a week or so. The treatment is done in a single session and can be repeated every 8 weeks.
Before your consult, you should use some specific cosmetics for 15 days to prepare your skin.
During the consult, the pre-peeling consists in a deep skin clean and during the post-peeling, a mask and ointment are applied to reduce the swelling, restore the hydrolipidic layer and it momentarily protects the skin from sun rays.
Once you are at home after having the peeling done, you should apply ointments with moisturizing, antioxidant and skin repairing properties as well as sun screen.
