Do I need to reduce my breasts?

You should do it once your breasts stop developing but you have any of the following symptoms:

First step: medical consultation

The first consultation with the plastic surgeon consists in deciding upon the expected size and shape, your skin quality and the areola and nipple location once surgery is completed.
Some health insurance policies (private health care companies) cover this procedure if it helps relieve medical symptoms.

What does the procedure consist in?

The most common method consists in a three-fold incision. One incision goes around the areola, the other one runs vertically from the areola lower end to the crease under the breast, and the last one is a horizontal incision that follows the natural curve of the breast crease.

After removing the excess of tissue, fat and skin, the areola is reduced and reattached together with the nipple to a higher position. The areola and the nipple are usually kept adhered to preserve sensibility.

At this point, ultrasonic liposuction is frequently used to mold the contour of breast sides and, in cases where there is a significant amount of fat tissue, the plastic surgeon could recommend ultrasonic liposuction as the only way to reduce the size, with the usual advantages of such method.

What does post-surgery consist in?

The patient is taken to the recovery room, and any discomfort is treated through medication. The area treated is bandaged and covered with a special bra. After the first week, the patient will be able to move with more freedom, and bandages will be changed.

After a few weeks, the patient may discard the bra, she will notice more sensibility in the nipple and areola and will be able to resume her normal activities.

Your breasts will gradually gain a natural shape and incision lines will tend to vanish. What is more, neck, back and shoulder pain will have disappeared.

Which are the results?

Breast reduction produces a dramatic change in the body appearance, and the patient quickly feels more comfortable with breasts that are more proportionate to the rest of her body.
